week-9-redwoods-2nov2016Educational theorists Dewey, Piaget and Vygotsky revolutionized education with the idea that people produce knowledge and form meaning based upon their active experience with the world. At TKG, teachers are facilitators who support students to construct knowledge. Teachers strive to ask rather than tell. Teachers are masters at Listening to, Learning with and thus deeply Knowing who each child is and where they are on their learning trajectory. One of our strategies for experiencing meaningful learning is through inquiry-based learning: an open-ended, effective and enjoyable way to learn that develops deeper learning competencies required for success in college, career and civic life. Incorporating project-based learning, we use the Common Core standards as a touchstone and measure academic progress through observation and authentic assessment. The learning is purposeful within a culture of inquiry as we encourage multiple solutions.
